SASH PREPARATION

  • SASH MUST BE STRUCTURALLY SOUND

  • SASH MUST BE ADEQUATE IN SIZE AND STRENGTH TO ACCOMMODATE, AS WELL AS, SUPPORT THE TYPE OF INSULATED GLASS UNIT USED

  • SASH MUST BE PLUMB AND SQUARE

  • SASH MUST BE CLEAN AND DRY

  • SASH MUST BE FREE FROM ANY GLAZING OBSTRUCTIONS

  • SASH MUST HAVE ALL JOINTS SEALED

  • SASH MUST HAVE SUFFUCUENT RABBAT DEPTH TO ALLOW GLAZING MATERIAL TO COMPLETELY COVER METAL AIR SPACE OF THE UNIT

  • SASH MUST HAVE A PROPER WEEP SYSTEM INCORPORATED TO ASSURE THE DRAIN-OFF OF ANY ACCUMULATED MOISTURE

GLAZING MATERIALS

WHEN USING INSULATED GLASS IN A TRUE DIVIDED LITE WINDOW APPLICATION, DO NOT USE ANY PETROLEUM PRODUCTS SUCH AS GLAZING PUTTY.  OIL BASED PAINTS OR VARNISHES WILL CAUSE THE UNIT TO FAIL.

ONLY A RESILIENT, NON-HARDENING, NON-CORROSIVE ELASTOMER SEALANT, TAPE, OR GASKET, WHICH IS 100% SOLID, CONTAINING NO SOLVENTS, AND COMPLETELY WATER REPELLENT FOR THE LIFE OF THE WARRANTY CAN BE USED.  NON OLEO-RESINOUS OR OIL BASE COMPOUND SHOULD EVER BE USED.

THE SEALANT MUST BE A NEUTRAL CURE DOW 795 FOR EXAMPLE

SETTING BLOACK MADE OF EIGHER RIGID NEOPRENE OR PRESSED WOOD TYPE SHOULD BE USED

SHIMS EITHER CENTERING OR CONTINUOUS, SHOULD BE THE RIGID NEOPRER TYPE, OR SHIMMED GLAZING TAPE.

GLAZING PROCEDURES

  • TWO SETTING BLOCKS PLACED AT "QUARTER POINTS"

  •

  • UNIT PLACED ON SETTING BLOCKS MUST BE CENTERED IN THE OPENING SO THAT A MINIMUM SPACING OF 1/4" ON LARGE UNITS AND 1/8" ON SMALL UNITS EXISTS BETWEEN THE EDGE OF THE UNIT AND THE FRAME.

  •

  • UNIT MUST ALLOW 1/16" LATERAL CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE FACE OF THE GLASS AND THE GLAZING STOPS

  •

  • THE USE OF LATERAL CENTERING SHIMS ON 12" - 18" CENTERS SHOULD BE USED WHERE APPLICABLE.  CONTINOUS SHIMS ARE RECOMMENDED IN HIGH WIND LOADING APPLICATIONS.

  •

  • GLAZING MUST BE DONE AT 40'F, OR ABOVE TO AVOID CONDENSATION PROBLEMS

  •  WHEN TINTED GLASS IS USED, THE TINTED SIDE MUST ALWAYS FACE THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING

  •  ON METAL BANDED UNITS THE GLAZING MATERIAL MUST COME IN CONTACT WITH THE GLASS SURFACE A MINIMUM OF 18" ABOVE THE METAL BAND

DO  NOT FILL THE CAVITY AROUND THE HEEL OR PERIMETER OF THE UNIT TO BEST AVOID COMPATIBILITY

                     AND EXPANSION PROBLEMS

DO NOT USE TINTED TYPE UNITS WHERE ANY UNUSUAL SHADING WILL OCCUR UNLESS TINTED SIDE IS TEMPERED

DO NOT LEAVE ANY LABELS OR STICKERS ON UNIT AFTER INSTALLATION
